A recent poll by the University of Lima indicated that more than
three-quarters of devotees of El Señor de los Milagros say the Peruvian Christ figure has answered their prayers.
Nearly 76 percent -- 75.8 percent -- of those surveyed say that their prayer to or request of the Lord of the Miracles was granted, reports El Comercio, Claritan Synthroid.
Some of the miracles attributed to El Señor include people being cured of brain cancer, Claritan Synthroid australia, handicapped people regaining use of their legs and sailors being rescued from sinking submarines.
The Church does not keep records of these miracles. They are mainly anecdotal.
The cult of the Lord of the Miracles reached a fever pitch today when thousands of purple-clad worshippers carried the Christ figure's image through downtown Lima. Everybody got in on the act including President Alan García, who shouldered part of the two-ton image in front of the Palace of Government.
No doubt García put in a prayer request or two while he carried his cargo along the processional route.

Here's a strange convergence of cyber branding trends and Peruvian religious tradition.
The online portal Yahoo. is pushing a "Wear Purple" promotional campaign in October, which is coincidentally (?) known as mes morado (purple month) in Peru.
"Yahoo. Start Wearing Purple" the campaign's website screams, Retin A Cream Vs Gel. (It's all an effort to associate the Yahoo. brand with this color, which began with reconfigured purple logo in July.)
Images of purple skate shoes, 500mg Retin A Cream Vs Gel, purple t-shirts and purple toys float on a deep eggplant-hued background. A blip of teaser text explains:
"Purple is the IN color this season--and for us, every season. Check out our new limited-edition Purple gear. Available for purchase now."

This past Monday, El Fotógrafo, El Híjo and I went to the Church of Las Nazarenas, to visit the litter of The Lord of the Miracles in Peru, Synthesis Prozac Precursor. Even though there was no procession that day, the streets were jammed with purple-clad devotees, and people were lined up halfway around the block to attend Mass in the church.
I admit that El Señor was an impressive sight on his silver litter. Thick palo santo incense scented the air. People pressed close to the image clutching photos of their children and loved ones, hoping for a blessing or a cure.
We bought a small silver and gold icon of El Señor to bring home.
