Peruvian Hairless Dog Nap

Peruvian Hairless Dog Nap, originally uploaded by GitanoLatino.

Photographer GitanoLatino knelt in the dry sands of northern Peru to capture this marvelous dog’s eye view of a sleeping Peruvian hairless (taken in January 2007).

The little dog is sleeping near the ruins of Chan Chan, an adobe city built by the Chimu people around 1300 AD. It is the largest adobe complex of the pre-Columbian Americas.

Peruvian hairless dogs roam the Chan Chan complex to this day.  Wouldn’t it be remarkable if one of these ancient dogs, who sat on the laps of Moche and Inca rulers, were to take up resident in the U.S. Casa Blanca?

I am an American writer who lived in Lima for seven years (2007-2014), where I covered Andean traditions, melting glaciers and daily life in the capital for Miami Herald, MSNBC and Huffington Post. I now live and work in northern Florida where I champion climate change advocacy and compassionate, affordable eldercare.

    Que lindo!

Oye, I’m going to the US for my mandatory 6-month visit. Can I take 200 hairless Peruvian dogs with me to sell in the US? Take advantage of those 15 minutes of fame…

Totally of the subject, I don’t know if there’s some unwritten rule against socializing with fellow bloggers, but we’ll be in Lima for a few days (Sun – Wed.)… me llamas no mas!

Yeah, WW, the little hairless guy is in demand right now. You should probably stow a few in your carry on. (Don’t know about 200, though…)

No unwritten rule…email me at my contact email.
