Blogging Notes

I’ll be traveling in the United States for the next two weeks, so blog posts will be sporadic.

I have two goals in the United States: (1) Research how Peruvians in the U.S. are coping with the financial downtown; and (2) Avoid getting fat on American food!

If you are a Peruvian living in the United States and you’d like to share your personal story about the economy, leave a comment on this post and include your email address in the comment form (the part that doesn’t show). I will be in touch. I’m interested in talking with people who are having trouble paying their mortgage, are in foreclosure, have lost their jobs or whose business is suffering from economic factors. Alternately, if you have “crisis-proofed” your finances, I’d like to hear about that, too.

Re gaining weight: My plan is to eat one large salad every day. That might help me fend off the pudge. Otherwise, I might come back to Lima looking like this:

Wish me luck, everyone. 🙂

I am an American writer who lived in Lima for seven years (2007-2014), where I covered Andean traditions, melting glaciers and daily life in the capital for Miami Herald, MSNBC and Huffington Post. I now live and work in northern Florida where I champion climate change advocacy and compassionate, affordable eldercare.

I’m traveling next week to the U.S. too, but for 6 weeks! I’m with ya on goal number two! I’m avoiding soda since all weight loss in the past for me up there has been to nix the caffeine & sodium!

BTW, my husband is a Peruvian living and working in the U.S., you may want to send him an email.

We’ve sort of swapped countries, but here’s why:

Happy Travels! I hope you’re not flying on Spirit! 😉

    and a “Felices Fiestas,” too!

How lucky that you could get away for that long. Now that I’m here (just arrived last night), I have to admit that things are more comfortable in the U.S. People drive in their lanes, the roads are smooth and all stuff you want is at your fingertips.

Thanks for encouraging me on the dieta. yes, I avoid soda.

Before taking off in LAN (never Spirit! Yuck), I weighed myself in a bathroom at Jorge Chavez airport. The 3 soles readout included my height and bodyfat percentage. I am going to do the same thing on my return, to see how the trip affected me.

Felices Fiestas, and I hope that you and your husband enjoy a wonderful time together.
