That’s great, congratulations to them. I recently went to Peru and unfortunately I could not make it to their place. It’s too bad, because you are right…it’s an oddity to find a Peruvian restaurant that does all organic. Albeit, I assumed that most peruvian veggies and fruits are organic because they are grown the old way, or at least that’s what I thought when I go to the open market.

I think it’s great that there are businesses getting certified organic in Peru! So many companies label something “organic” when in fact it’s not, so supporting certification is very important!!

Too bad you couldn’t make it to AlmaZen. Maybe next time. Yes, I think that Peruvian vegetables tend to have fewer chemicals than those in the U.S. — however, with the advent of agro-industries in Peru, that’s changing. I tend to agree with the French concept of “terroir,” or sense of place — the characteristics of a region’s soil and climate that are imparted to things that are grown there. Good, rich soil is very important, not just the absence of chemicals.
